Read Between the Lines: Eye wrinkles on your 20s, their causes, and best treatments

  • Anne Reyes

Growing up can be daunting, and so can the wrinkles that come with it. Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered. Keep reading to find out why we get premature eye wrinkles and how we can get rid of them.

Your 20s and 30s are supposed to be the best times of your life: graduating from college, going out with friends, starting your career, falling in love, and finding yourself. These are the years when you actually become an adult and start doing adult things. The last thing you would be worried about at that age would definitely be wrinkles because you probably have a lot of time left before you have them, right?

Wrong.

It might surprise you, but a lot of women start to notice the appearance of fine lines around the face by the age of 25. The most common lines that appear prematurely are the ones around the eyes, particularly the under eye, because the skin around this area is the thinnest and most delicate compared to the rest of the body. So, let’s take a deeper look on what premature eye wrinkles are, why they appear, and how we can control them.

WHAT ARE PREMATURE EYE WRINKLES?

Premature wrinkles, or as some like to call them, baby wrinkles, are tiny creases and early indentations that usually appear in areas where the skin moves repeatedly (and weakens over time) with expressions. Like we said, the most common of the premature wrinkles are the wrinkles around the eyes. This is because the skin in this area is about 40 percent thinner compared to the rest of your body and, therefore, can droop at a faster rate. These lines appear on the corners of the eyes and underneath the eyes.

WHY DO THEY SHOW UP?

All types of wrinkles start to appear on the skin as we lose collagen and elastin. This happens throughout our lives and cannot be stopped completely. However, there are other factors that can speed up the process. Let’s take a look at the 3 S’s: sun, smog, and sleep.

Sun

It’s no secret that the sun is the number one cause for premature wrinkles. Yes, the sun may feel warm and happy, but each time you step out of the house, its harmful UV rays are attacking the skin by breaking down collagen and elastin. That’s why wearing sunblock is not just for when you’re heading to the beach. It’s important to throw on some SPF every single day and drink plenty of water to keep your skin safe and fresh.

Smog

If you live in a smoggy city, this may be one of the causes of your premature wrinkles. Air pollution also accelerates the loss of collagen and elastin and can not only cause wrinkles but also enlarged pores, dry skin, and age spots. There’s nothing much you can do about the outside world, but you can improve the air in your home by investing in an air purifier. Also, use a cleanser on your face every day and night to wash away the harmful toxins from your skin.

Sleep

Studies show that people who lack sleep are more prone to having eye wrinkles, more hanging eyelids, redder eyes, more swollen eyes, and darker circles under the eyes. This is because sleep deprivation decreases the blood flow to the face. Doctors recommend getting 7 to 9 hours of sleep every night for a healthy lifestyle. Additionally, sleeping on your side often causes your face to scrunch up and may contribute to premature wrinkles too. Try to train yourself to sleep on your back as much as possible.

Dry Brushing

Dry brushing is something that is typically done on your body. However, dermatologists recommend trying this on your face as well, particularly under the eyes.

It involves taking a dry soft-bristled brush and moving it around your skin. This method works to exfoliate the skin, improve circulation, and stimulate collagen production. This, in turn, can help prevent wrinkles not just under the eyes, but around your entire body.

Petroleum Jelly

Using petroleum jelly for wrinkles is a remedy loved even by celebrities. It is an occlusive agent, which means that it locks in moisture in the skin.

All you have to do is take a bit of the petroleum jelly and massage it under the eyes and on other affected areas for a few minutes. Don’t rinse, just leave the unabsorbed petroleum jelly overnight. You definitely see the results if you do this every night. However, dermatologists suggest not using this method if you have acne-prone skin.

Rosehip Oil

Rosehip oil is used by the Duchess of Cambridge herself, Kate Middleton. She swears by its anti-aging effects. The vitamin A, vitamin E, and fatty acids present in it penetrate into the deeper layers of skin, lighting scars, and banishing wrinkles.

Just apply 3 to 4 drops of the oil to your fingertips and massage it gently under the eyes and leave the oil to sit overnight. If you want to see its magic, use this every night, just like the Duchess.

Kiwi Mask

Kiwis rejuvenate the skin as they are rich in antioxidants like vitamin C, vitamin E, and lycopene. These antioxidants boost the production of collagen and elastin which, of course, keep our skin firm.

Just grab a medium-sized kiwi, peel and cut the fruit into small pieces, and grind in a blender to get a paste. Apply this generously onto the face and let it sit for 15 to 20 minutes before rinsing off. Do this twice awake to see its full effects.

Almond Mask

Almonds contain vitamin E that restores the natural elasticity of the skin. This mask requires just 5 to 6 almonds and ¼ cup of milk. To make it, you first have to soak the almonds overnight in the milk. Then, the next day, remove the almonds and grind along with the milk they were soaked in to make a paste. Apply this generously onto the face and leave it for 15 to 20 minutes before rinsing with water. Together with the milk, almonds moisturize the skin and make it soft and glowing, so do this twice a week for young and healthy looking skin.

Celery Juice Mask

Celery is very high in water content and is excellent at rehydrating the skin. It also contains minerals like magnesium and potassium, and vitamins like A, B1, and B6 that nourish the skin. This method is often used to reduce the appearance of acne scars, but its healing properties can also be used for reducing wrinkles.

To make this, juice a celery stick or two, and mix two tablespoons of the juice with two tablespoons of powdered oatmeal until it becomes a paste. Apply this paste to your face and neck and let it sit for 10 to 15 minutes. Then, wet your hands with water and gently scrub the paste away before rinsing your face. Try this out twice a week and see what it can do to your skin.

WHAT IF I WANT INSTANT RESULTS?

We know these things can take a very long time before actually working, and some people don’t have the time to do these things regularly. We get it. Plus, instant results usually mean painful and pricey procedures. Well, what if we told you that you can get these instant results painlessly from the comfort of your own home without breaking the bank? How, you ask?

1. B-Selfie Eye - Under Eye Filler Patches

Through our new product, Bselfie Microneedle Patches. Our fillers are not your typical injected fillers. All you need to do is apply a simple patch onto the areas with fine lines, and let it work like magic. These patches use microneedling technology to penetrate the epidermis and deliver its special ingredient for a more rejuvenated and refreshed looking face.

How does it work? The patches contain 160 micro-cones that are ¼ of the thinness of human hair, making them ultra thin. The formula gently dissolves into the skin's surface and delivers a targeted dose of 100% hyaluronic acid and EGF. Place the patches on the eye area, and leave them on for at least 2 hours. They are delicate enough to use on your under eye area.

I know what you’re thinking, this sounds way too good to be true. Try it out with the one-time purchase option, where you will receive one pack and do a face lift from home that will instantly reduce wrinkles. The effect will last for about 7 days. You may also opt for a monthly subscription option, where you'll receive one patch on a weekly basis for 4 weeks at your own convenience. The consistent application of the Bselfie Microneedle Patches will eventually result in longer-lasting effects.

2. B-Selfie Eyes - Ultra Filler Effect Serum

This is another product that can give you results very fast and complements the under-eye filler patch. Here is what you need to know about the eyes - ultra filler effect serum: it consists of essential and complex compounds like, proteins, fatty acids, vitamins (A, B, C, D, & E), lipids and other nutrient minerals that really helps your skin to glow, as it was missing its luster and shine.
